Pretty much yeah. (Egbert was an okay kid and all, but he was a massive dork that was responsible for Dirk's creation at the end of the day. He wonders if that really would have been better, and admits, rather quietly:)
I can't imagine what that would have been like.
(Either he would have been the closest to normal as possible, or he would have become an absolute monster. The thing was he did deeply love his friends. He missed them every single day he didn't talk to them. But some part of him thought that if any of them had to vanish into the void and show up in this city, he was glad it was him. Another part of him felt anxious that he wasn't back with them because he knew what they needed to stay safe.)
Maybe. Just because they share the same race doesn't necessarily mean they are friends with each other. Some might even join the fight to help me.
They are, yes. (Savage doesn't probe and Dirk doesn't expand. He's just fine with that arrangement.)

Maybe it was short-term and a few times, but it was nice to think about having someone they could both depend on intimately. Even if it didn't become something more or ended one day - it would be worth having in the meantime.)
